Howdy!

Welcome to Historic Delano, one of Wichita's oldest neighborhoods.

Delano sprang up as a cowtown at the end of the Chisholm Trail and quickly gained a reputation as a place where trail-weary cowboys could take their rest and recreation in the many saloons and brothels. Learn more about Delano's colorful history here.

Today Delano is home to dozens of unique shops, art galleries and restaurants. Nightlife includes weekly events like the Thursday Night Pub Pedal and monthly events like the First Friday Music Crawl and the Final Friday Art Crawl.

Annual events like the St. Patrick's Parade, Rumble in Delano Car Show, Ghost Stories of Historic Delano Ghost Tour and Christmas Parade in Delano attract thousands of visitors from across the region to the district.

Due to it's close proximity to the downtown Convention Center and hotels, Delano's commercial district sees a lot of business from out-of-town customers. They appreciate the nearby convenience of Delano's merchants and restaurants.

Spend some time and discover Historic Delano.

Historic Delano, Inc. was created to allow us to showcase our unique little neighborhood to the rest of Wichita and beyond. One way to do that is to hold events - like car shows and parades.

In 2007 some of us wanted to bring a St. Patrick's Parade to Delano. It had been a number of years since Wichita had held a St. Pat's Parade and we felt that it was time. The parade was very well received and has grown every year since.

In 2008 we helped establish the Rumble in Delano Car Show and the Ghost Stories of Historic Delano ghost tour. In 2009 we added the Christmas Parade and gave assistance to several outside groups holding events in Delano.

HistoricDelano.com was created as a vehicle to publicize not just the events that happen in Delano, but also the trendy shops, night spots and other things that give Delano it's unique character. Things that out-of-town guests (or people new to Delano) would want to know.

One of the ways we acheive this is by offering an online directory of Delano businesses and services. Any Delano business may take advantage of a free listing. Our directory has evolved a couple of times, and the next (interactive) version is on the way.

In addition to this web site we also produce a printed Historic Delano Visitor's Guide which is distributed through the Greater Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau as well as local businesses including the downtown hotels. The guide includes highlights of Delano's colorful history and a map with a business directory.

We're not just about visitors and out-of-towners, though. Historic Delano maintains a strong connection to the local community and we are proud to support the Delano Community Garden and the Delano Farmer's Market.

We are glad to be working with the other Delano groups to create the new Delano CDC and look forward to what that can do for the district.
