Howdy!
Welcome to Historic Delano, one of Wichita's oldest neighborhoods.
Delano sprang up as a cowtown at the end of the Chisholm Trail and quickly gained a reputation as a place where trail-weary cowboys could take their rest and recreation in the many saloons and brothels.
Today Delano is home to dozens of unique shops, art galleries and restaurants. Nightlife includes events like the Thursday Night Pub Pedal, the First Friday Music Crawl and the Final Friday Art Crawl.
Spend some time and discover Historic Delano.

The new year just started, but we're already hard at work planning the 4th Annual St. Patrick's Parade for Saturday, March 13th. The parade route will be the same as last year and once again the parade will begin at High Noon. Get your group together and come join us!
NOTE: this year we are asking for a $10 entry fee from each entry to help cover the expenses of putting on the parade. We have resisted doing this but, in the past donations have not covered expenses.

Believe it or not, it's time to start thinking about gardening. Many of us are already looking at seed catalogues or taking detours through the lawn and garden area of Home Depot or WalMart. Those with greenhouses or other suitable starting areas are already making plans.
The Delano Neighborhood Association will have a Master Gardener as a guest speaker in February. The DNA meets the third Tuesday of each month (Tuesday, February 16th) at the West Side Christian Church - 1819 W. Douglas (Douglas and Vine) at 7:00 pm. |

After the presentation we will discuss the Delano Community Garden and the proposed Delano Community Farmers Market. We expect to run the market on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings throughout the summer.
We are currently accepting new gardeners for the Delano Garden, as well as looking for vendors for the market.
If you are interested in gardening, would like to help with the Community Garden or would like to help with the Farmers Market please attend this meeting. |
We've been working on the web site and have several new slideshows up: two on the garden page, two on the ghost tour page and three on the Christmas page. The interface has been changed so that the buttons no longer interfere with the pictures. Be sure and check them out.
Site navigation has been simplified and a section called "Business Connection" has been added. The Business Connection will become the portal for Delano businesses to list their business in our directory, be included in our Visitor's Guide and sign up as Premium Users.
We reorganized our directory with new categories and have added a "Primary Category" for each business to facilitate searches. We hope to make the directory fully interactive and searchable by summer of 2010.
We are also working on the 2010 edition of the printed Visitor's Guide. We will be reducing the amount of space devoted to history, increasing the size of the map and updating the directory with our new categories. |

It looks like 2010 will be a busy year - not just for Historic Delano, but for all of the Delano groups. The newly re-formed Delano Business Association already has a couple of projects lined up. The new Delano Community Development Corporation (Delano CDC) will spend much of the year becoming organized and raising money to cover their expenses.
The Delano Neighborhood Association will be sponsoring a district-wide garage sale again this year, as well as the annual Clean-up. Historic Delano will once again bring you the St. Patrick's Parade, the Ghost Stories of Historic Delano ghost tour and the Christmas Parade.
Happy New Year! |
